Rank three of a kind, straight flush, straight, flush, pair and high card before you join a table.

The Goal

Compare three kings with three queens: the kings win. A straight flush outranks a straight because it combines consecutive ranks and one suit.

Follow The Sequence

  1. Sort the three ranks and check whether all three cards match.
  2. Look for one suit and consecutive ranks; together they make a straight flush.
  3. Check a straight before a flush, then a pair before high card.
  4. Resolve equal categories by the published tie-breaking rules. Do not assume suits break a tie.

Check Your Result

You should be able to identify the next legal action and explain why it is appropriate. If the app screen differs, return to its published rules rather than forcing these general steps onto another variant.

Practical Scenario

A friend sends an APK link through a group chat. Before opening it, trace the file back to the publisher. Compare the identity and ask what the requested permissions do. A familiar icon does not settle those questions.

Read The Three Cards In The Right Order

Begin with the shape of the hand, not its highest card. Three identical ranks form trips even if none is an ace. Three consecutive ranks in one suit form a straight flush. A mixed-suit sequence is a straight; cards sharing a suit without a sequence make a flush. Check pairs only after ruling out these stronger categories.

The same category can still contain many strengths. A pair of kings outranks a pair of tens regardless of the kicker. If two players share the pair rank, compare the remaining card under the room’s rules. Suits do not automatically break ties. Ask about tie handling before play instead of inventing an order at showdown.

A Practice Drill You Can Repeat

  1. Write six example hands on paper without revealing their category. Keep the examples free of jokers.
  2. Sort the hands from strongest to weakest using categories first, then ranks within a category.
  3. Explain one comparison aloud: “This straight beats that flush because category comes first.”
  4. Check the room’s ace rule separately. A-K-Q and A-2-3 are the common source of avoidable confusion.

Keep an error note with the mistaken category and the correct reason. This helps you learn the rule rather than memorize one arrangement of cards. A drill is complete when you can justify the order, not merely repeat it.
